Nathan Hall (@nathanghall) tweeted that when he and Svetlana Lupasco (@StanzaSL) started #LINCchat in 2015, their goal was “to help connect and support LINC instructors from across Canada.” They did that and more. Over the years, #LINCchat has connected English Language instructors across Canada and beyond, so it was time to be more inclusive. 

On May 15th, #LINCchat became #CdnELTchat so that we could include everyone in the #CdnELT landscape. Thank-you to all those who participated in our first #CdnELTChat  about “Language learning through Reading Fiction”: @seburnt, @robshpprd, @AliceSKim, @Fain75, and @capontedehannaModerators, @EALStories and @jennifermchow kept the conversation moving.

How would you define work-life balance? What are some quick self-care strategies you use during a typical work day to stay grounded? What can evening teachers do as part of a self-care routine to help them unwind? What policies and procedures should employers have in place to promote employees’ mental health and well-being? November 14 #LINCchat Summary: Building an Inclusive Community with Language Learners

In her TED Talk, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, expresses her thoughts on “The Danger of a Single Story”: 

I’ve always felt that it is impossible to engage properly with a place or a person without engaging with all of the stories of that place and that person. The consequence of the single story is this: It robs people of dignity. It makes our recognition of our equal humanity difficult. It emphasizes how we are different rather than how we are similar. 

During the November 14 #LINCchat, Augusta Avram (@LINCInstructor) and Bonnie Jean Nicholas (@EALstories) facilitated an important discussion about including multiple voices and stories to develop inclusive communities.
